Touted as Asia's first fully integrated resort, the mammoth 155ha Sutera Harbour has accommodation to suit couples, families and business travellers.
Built on reclaimed land, there are fantastic views over a private 104-berth marina to the higgledy-piggledy islands of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park and throughout the resort there is a languid seaside atmosphere.
The resort is made up of three properties, the 500-room Pacific Sutera, the Sutera Harbour Marina, Golf and Country Club and the Magellan Sutera Resort.
Guests can use amenities across all three, giving them access to facilities that would rival many cruise ships. There are 14 bars and restaurants, including Ferdinand's Italian Restaurant for fine dining, Alfresco for casual Mediterranean, the Silk Garden Chinese Restaurant, a 24-hour Cafe Boleh coffee shop, and pool bars.
There's also a 27-hole golf course designed by Graham Marsh, a two-tiered driving range, a 12-lane tenpin bowling centre, a 100-seat movie theatre, squash, badminton and indoor and outdoor tennis courts.
There are five swimming pools, a children's playground and the Little Magellan kids' club. The Sea Quest water sports centre can arrange boat charters, windsurfing, parasailing and jet skiing and there are ferry services to the islands.
Check-in at Pacific Sutera's grand marble lobby is quick, staff are courteous and welcoming and the rooms are big, clean and cool with great views of the golf course or the South China Sea.
There are no annoyances such as curtains that let in chinks of light, missing bins and mini-bars full of chocolate bars and chips.
