New Orleans 'Top Chefs' to visit Israel

Four world-famous New Orleans chefs, including TV Celebrity John Besh, will visit Israel between June 23 and 30 as part of the Jewish Agency Partnership 2000 (P2K) initiative, which pairs the Jewish communities and federations United States with "sister" communities in Israel.

Visit of Heads of Israel was planned in collaboration with the IDF, Israel Ministry of Tourism and the Union of Israeli leaders.

In Israel, the leaders will be touring many Tel Aviv restaurants, preparing meals for the IDF soldiers stationed on bases in northern Israel, cooking classes for aspiring chefs meet Israeli and opening gala Rosh Ha'ayin Drive, partner of New Orleans P2K city, where they will present gourmet meals for 10 shekels a dish ($ 3 U.S.) for the general public.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to programs in Israel that serve at-risk youth.

Leah Golan, the Jewish Agency Deputy Director General said: "The Jewish Agency is always looking for new ways to create interaction between Israel and our Jewish brethren abroad. It is hard to imagine a more Jewish people gather to celebrate through food."

In addition to Besh, which has been classified by the Food and Wine as one of the ten best chefs in the United States, other heads of delegation of New Orleans: David Slater, the head chef at Emeril New Orleans, Alon Shaya, Louisiana Cookin of 2007 "Chefs to watch" and Jacques Leonardi, owner and head chef of Jacques-Imo Café.
