Lake County Community Foundation awards $213600 in grants
A group aimed at improving Lake County’s health and human services delivery system has been awarded a $135,000 grant by the Lake County Community Foundation.
The grant to the Leadership Task Force, a coalition of 20 Lake County health and human services agencies launched by the foundation in 2010, represents the single greatest investment by the foundation since it began making grants to Lake County nonprofits in 2004.
LCCF announced a total of $213,600 in awards last week. Other recipients are: Northern Illinois Food Bank, $25,000; Heartland Alliance-National Immigrant Justice Center, $10,000; St. Martin de Porres High School, $10,000 for the Bridge Program; IFF, a nonprofit lender and real estate consultant, $5,000 for completion of phase 2 of the countywide nonprofit mapping project; BENNU Legal services, $9,600 for new fund-raising software; Chicago Botanic Gardens, $5,000 for the North Chicago Green Youth Farm program; Employee Connections, $9,000 to support programs for the unemployed; Family Network, $5,000 for fitness and nutrition programming.
About half of the grant to the Leadership Task Force will go toward the implementation of ServicePoint, a database that will be used by all health and human services agencies in the county for more efficient case management and referrals.
Lake County Community Foundation Executive Director Sylvia Zaldivar-Sykes called ServicePoint “our first true public-private partnership.”
Task force member agencies agreed to forego their own grant applications to the foundation for two years.
“That’s how important they think this project is,” Zaldivar-Sykes said. “We told them, ‘We’ll fund this project, but we can’t fund all of you.’”
Organizations participating in the Leadership Task Force include: Arden Shore Child and Family Services, A Safe Place, CareerPlace, Boys and Girls Club of Lake County, Catholic Charities, CREW, HACES, HealthReach Inc., I-Plus, Lake County Health Department, Lake County, Planning and Development, LOVE Inc., Mano a Mano, Most Blessed Trinity Parish, NICASA, PADS Crisis Services, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, Waukegan Public Library, Youth Conservation Corps, and YouthBuild Lake County.
